11 Feb Caroll’s Column Thurs 11th February 2016
Hi,
I’ve been enjoying the unexpected sunshine this February.
It’s been lovely to get out and blow away the winter cobwebs and to see some flowers popping up – it really shows spring is just around the corner.
Julieanne and I are organising a night at Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle on Thursday, March 31, which is going to be fabulous fun.
Thank you to Cheryl Flowers there who has enabled us to offer tickets at £10.
The price includes a free glass of sparkling wine or orange juice on arrival; a finger buffet and gaming tuition. There will also be lots of prizes up for grabs.
This is the start of fundraising for our Grand Canyon Trek and all money raised will provide specialist equipment to help make life easier for a couple of North East children.
If you and your friends would like to join us then call 0191 201 6289 to book tickets.
We had an amazing night on Tuesday at the opening of Turtle Bay, a new Caribbean restaurant in the old Newgate Street Co-op building in Newcastle.
There was a lovely atmosphere with great music and friendly staff and a special mention should go to Jack who was our waiter and looked after us so well.
This was a special charity night where people paid what they thought the meal was worth. And all money paid for the food came to the Sunshine Fund and was also match-funded by Turtle Bay.
We were so pleased with the night and the gorgeous and different food we tried that we paid the full amount: the cheesecake is the nicest I have tasted.
This week, I met a lovely 16-year-old called Jamie at Winns Solicitors whose staff had raised funds to help us buy him a trike. Jamie told us how he loves being able to get out on it and his mam explained how proud she is to see him ride it but also at how looking after it and putting it away is teaching him independence.
He is such a friendly happy boy and it was a pleasure to meet them both and know we have made such a difference to their lives. They are now both looking forward to the summer when Jamie wants to ride his trike to his friend’s house.
Thank you so much to Winns in Newcastle for sponsoring our Great North Run marquee and running vests again this year. This really makes a difference to our costs and the service we can offer our runners.
If you fancy doing the GNR this year and weren’t lucky enough to get ballot place then contact Rebecca on 0191 201 6066 or [email protected] as she still has some guaranteed places left.
Clare is busy getting ready for our Glass Slipper Awards to be held at the Hilton at the end of the month.
People may not realise just how much there is so much to do behind the scenes for these events. Not only is Clare putting together a screen presentation and finalising the awards, flowers and table numbers but she is also sourcing items for the Intu goody bags guest will receive for free.
Anyone joining us can expect another great event. I can’t wait to meet the winners on what is always such an emotional day. Happy Valentine’s Day for Sunday – I hope you celebrate in style with whoever is special to you.
Enjoy it,
Caroll
