Pedal power buys teen a trike seat

An engineer pedalled 240 miles from coast-to-coast to help buy a youngster with cerebral palsy a new trike seat. Ken Wynn, an engineer from Rowlands Gill, cycled from Tynemouth to Workington and back to Tynemouth, travelling 240 miles and climbing 16,000ft. His amazing 24-hour feat saw him raise £1,493 for The Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund as part of the Go Bananas appeal. FINANCE experts turned triathletes raised the cash needed to help a little boy live life to the full. Fenham lad Charlie Rath has Down’s Syndrome and is full of beans. Now, thanks to a team from Newcastle firm Deloitte, he has a specialist trike to go out and play with his pals on. Downtoon Abbey Ball

THE clock turned back almost a hundred years last night for The Chronicle Sunshine Fund's annual Sunflower Ball. The Downtoon Abbey Ball saw Newcastle Marriott Hotel Gosforth Park taken back to the glamorous 1920s with guests sporting appropriate tuxedos and ball gowns. Guest enjoyed a sparkling wine reception followed by a three-course meal at the annual event for our fund, which has to date raised thousands of pounds to change the lives of children with disabilities in the North East.
