23 Apr What an egg-stra special day
THERE was plenty of fun and laughter at our Sunshine Fund Easter party.
Families whose children have benefited from gifts from the charity were joined by Toon star Steven Taylor as well as Miss Lorelei Corey-Jo Skeen and even Sleeping Beauty.
All the children, who have received iPads, laptops and pod seats, were also given as Easter egg each to mark the occasion.
Sandra Holywell, mother of 10-year-old Rachel, who has Downs Syndrome and was recently given an iPad, said the party was “absolutely fantastic”. She added: “It was really nice to put faces to the names of all the girls at the Sunshine Fund. Rachel loved it and I had an absolutely great time too!
“I even got my face painted, so I was a tiger for the afternoon, and Rachel painted one of the girl’s faces so she was walking round covered in stripes.
“She absolutely loves her new iPad and she’s great on it. We’ve downloaded lots of reading and writing apps and she’s doing really well, it’s such a great benefit to her.”
Another of the children was five-year-old Nathan Main, who was given a P Pod seat – a special bean bag chair that helps posture.
Nathan’s mother Tracy said: “He totally enjoyed himself, he had a big smile on his face all day long.”
The entertainment for the day was provided by AS You Like It bar in Jesmond, who also presented the Sunshine Fund with a cheque for £2,671 that they had raised.
Sunshine Fund office manager, Julieanne Kelly, said: “What a brilliant day we had, all the children had such a good time.
“We would like to say a huge big thank you to As You Like It in Jesmond, Donna and staff have supported the Sunshine Fund for many years, we can not thank them enough, it great to see a local venue getting involved with our work.”
As You Like It operations manager, Donna Gibb, said: “We were thrilled to meet the lovely families who benefit from the fantastic work the Sunshine Fund do day in day out, it really is great to see first hand where the money we raise from our Kids Club Event goes.
“We are honoured to be supporting such a fantastic cause, long may it continue.”
