14 Feb Triathlon call to fit firms
COMPETITIVE business bods are being invited to battle it out in a fun fitness challenge this summer.
Organisers of The Newcastle Triathlon – who have selected the Chronicle Sunshine Fund as their chosen charity – are calling on local companies to put forward their energetic employees to take part in the Corporate Challenge.
The event, which is suitable for all abilities, ages and genders, will see teams of four from companies compete in the three-pronged sports event for the prestige of top team.
As well as getting fit, participants will also be raising money to help scores of disabled youngsters across the region who benefit from the support of the Sunshine Fund.
One company that has already signed up to the challenge as well as sponsoring the event is long-time Sunshine Fund supporters, Winn Solicitors.
Some of the workers from the law firm headed to Hadrian School in Newcastle – who have benefited from grants from the Sunshine Fund – along with Miss Newcastle Shannen Steinson who supports the charity.
Michael Warmington, office manager and head of human resources at Winn, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the Newcastle Triathlon, knowing all the money our staff team raise will support local children with disabilities.
“The Sunshine Fund is a fantastic charity, and we are thrilled that the money raised will be able to support more local schools with sporting equipment such as trikes, so the children can stay active and have fun.”
Legal clark Michael Kealy added: “The triathlon itself won’t be easy and we’ll need to train hard, but knowing what a great cause it is for makes it all worthwhile. Meeting the children today has made us even more determined to take the challenge on and raise as much as possible.”
The Winn Solictors Corporate Challenge will see companies tackle the Newcastle Triathlon – a 750m swim in the Tyne, a 20km bike ride along the Newcastle quayside, finishing with a 5km run.
A team of four can enter the challenge either to compete together or as a relay. The triathlon, sponsored by Start Cycles, takes place on July 24.
Clare Savory, event manager at the Sunshine Fund, said: “We are delighted to have Winn Solicitors on board as corporate sponsor for the Newcastle Triathlon.
“The money raised from the event will help provide sporting equipment to disabled children across the North East.”
Places are limited for the challenge, so if your company is interested in entering, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0191 201 6068.
