Caroll’s Blog Thursday 16th October 2014

I DID warn you last week that I would be talking about Christmas. Apologies if you think it’s too soon, but I would like you to think about joining us in a North East celebration. I would like you all to join our Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, December 12, when we want you to wear your Christmas jumpers with pride and donate £2 to help the children we support. You don’t need to buy a jumper – you could customise something you ... Read more

I HOPE you are enjoying October. The weather might be quite unseasonable, but it is definitely autumn. What a lovely night we had at Fat Buddha this week to officially launch our 2015 Challenge to Petra, leaving on October 7, 2015. There was lots of interest and lots of questions, from “What will the weather be like?” to “How will I raise the sponsorship money?” which the team from Skyline and the Sunshine Fund answered with confidence and the usual enthusiasm. There are people ... Read more

Hi folks, wow, wow and wow I can’t believe we've done it, what an amazing experience China was. All six of us Team Sunshine laughed, cried, sang and danced, in 40 degree heat it was an incredible 10 days. Despite my pneumonia earlier in the year and Joanne having a broken toe we overcame everything to walk the Great Wall of China. Thank you so much to everyone who supported us in fundraising and training. I personally will never forget it and neither will ... Read more

It’s two weeks from today that the six of us will be on the plane to Beijing. Yippee! I held a Chinese barbecue for family and friends at the weekend and raised another £100, so thank you to everyone for being so generous. I have now raised £2,800 and only have £300 left to go. I’m hoping ... Read more

Caroll’s Blog 14th August 2014

Hi folks, hope you have managed to dodge the showers this week. One of my fellow China Trekkers showed me pictures of a previous China Trek trip where the steps look pretty tricky, uneven and downright dangerous in parts, therefore I have changed my training this week. Instead of doing long walks I have concentrated on steps. I did three half-hour sessions of walking up and down the steps at Collingwood Monument in Tynemouth which are quite steep, great for my leg ... Read more

WHAT a strange week for weather. One minute it’s sunny, the next we have thunderstorms, you just don’t know what to wear. I attended the Journal and Gazette Schools Awards at Ramside Hall, Durham, on Tuesday. It was a really good event and watching the kids perform was super and reminded me of attending school plays with my kids although they are so much better with technology now, they leave me standing. Anna Foster was hosting and she was super with kids and ... Read more
