How to put the fun into  fund-raising

13 Jun How to put the fun into  fund-raising

These toddlers put their best feet forward to help raise money for our Sunshine Fund.

The sponsored toddle was in aid of The Sunshine Fund’s annual Go Bananas campaign sponsored by intu Metrocentre & intu Eldon Square takes place every June and aims to raise money to buy specialist equipment for local disabled children who need it.

Ten children have been hand-picked by a panel of experts to benefit from the donations made by the generous people of the North East this year.

And fundraising is well under way with more than £200 being raised at the sponsored toddle at Cobalt Business Park.

The event, which is organised by Busy Bees Nursery, is always a popular event drawing in crowds of families and this year was no different.

The weather put everyone in good spirits and the children were even treated to a visit from one of intu Metrocentre’s popular gnomes Sherbert.

Victoria Solomon, nursery manager, said: “We are really honoured at Busy Bees Newcastle to support the launch of the Journal and Chronicle Sunshine Fund ‘Go Bananas’ campaign every year with this fantastic family event. The weather was brilliant and we had a wonderful turnout with around 30 of our nursery families attending. Everyone loved meeting Sherbert, the Intu mascot, and we had face painting, games and well needed drinks and lovely cakes to finish off with after our lovely walk.

“We really hope that the money raised will kick start the campaign and we hope to add more to our £200 over the year to come with more fundraising events.

“We are really grateful to all the staff and the families who turned out for the event and hope they had a great time!”

Lauren Thompson, the Community Fundraiser for the Fund, added: “We can’t thank Victoria and the team at Busy Bees enough for putting on another fantastic event. They always help us kick-start our Go Bananas campaign and we hope it inspires others to hold their own events throughout June to support our Go Bananas kids.”
