Caroll’s Column Thursday 7th July

14 Jul Caroll’s Column Thursday 7th July

Hi, wow and wow, I am delighted to confirm that thanks to all your support we have hit our £60,000 target for June which means we have now been able to give all the children the equipment they need and deserve.

It went to the very end but we did it so thank you to everyone who sent in donations, organised an event, or got sponsored to do something.

It all mounted up and means the world to the kids and the families.

Some of the children have received their equipment already if it doesn’t have to be specially made. Samuel was one of the first to receive his all-terrain buggy.

His mam Joanne sent in some pictures, it was brilliant to see him enjoying himself in the buggy on the beach and in the sea.

It makes all our hard work in June so worthwhile when you see the smile on his face.

We will be sharing all the pictures of the children with their equipment over the next month.

I would like to share an email we received from Joanne on Friday which was so nice to receive.

“We can not put into words how grateful we are to the Sunshine Fund and all the wonderful people who donate and fundraise.

“The chair is fantastic and has made such a difference to our family outings and as you can see from Sam’s smile he loves it. To us as a family, the gift you have given us is priceless as is Sam’s smile thank you, Joanne xx.”

I feel so humbled that you all did your bit to help us last month and can’t thank you enough on behalf of the families. And now for some thank-you messages, firstly to our sponsors intu Eldon Square and Metrocentre who have been collecting and putting on events throughout the month for their customers.

Also to all the companies who have raised money such as Gordon Brown Law Firm who held a fashion show supported by intu Eldon Square, Metrocentre and Babucco and Busy Bees Nursery at Cobalt who organised a fab fun toddle.

Thanks to ITPS who had a golf day and barbecue and Cellular Solutions who also held a golf day for the fund. Adderstone arranged various fundraising events for staff including bake sales and Mincoffs, Kier and KPMG took part in Wear Yellow Day. Thanks also to Let’s Move Estate Agents and Durham Fire Service who donated directly for the children’s equipment and everyone who took part in our Sunshine Fun Run.

A final thank you to everyone who took part in wheelchair basketball, which was not only great fun but also very competitive.

There are more who I will mention next week. It seems like ages ago since we held the launch event as lots has happened in June, it’s been full-on but lots of fun.

We are off to intu Eldon Square on Saturday to celebrate with the families from the appeal and some of our supporters.

Thanks to intu Eldon Square for giving us the room and to Hopscotch who are giving their time to entertain the children.

Here’s to a fun day with all the kids.

Thanks again for all your support. Here’s to a lovely July best wishes,
