28 Nov Caroll’s Column Thursday 23 November
As all the Christmas lights are popping up, I hope you are starting to get in the Christmas spirit, five weeks and counting down, it’ll be here before we know it.
We are all getting excited in the office for our Celebrity Question of Sport event at the Hilton Newcastle/Gateshead next Thursday.
It’s going to be a fab night with lots of fun and celebrities. I would like to thank Speedflex and Close House for being the main sponsors of the event, you are amazing. Also to the Hilton for all their support and sponsoring the drinks reception.
It’s not just a great sporting competition but also a brilliant way to raise lots of money to pay for some equipment for Christmas.
Last week, the equipment committee met and agreed more than £40,000 worth of equipment.
There is a mixture of items but quite a few specialist beds which will help not only children with conditions such as cerebral palsy sleep safely, comfortable allowing them to get a full night’s sleep, but it will also help the families move the children safely, ensuring they don’t have to lift the children and risk damaging their backs.
I hope you have organised Your Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, December 15, when we want everyone in the North East to wear their jumpers and donate to the charity.
We have lots of lovely companies joining in and some schools.
If you would like more information, call Lauren on 0191 201 6289.
We will be visiting a few places taking part to deliver goodies and take some pictures for The Chronicle.
I would like to introduce you to Sarah Johnson, who has joined the team this week. She joins us from St Oswalds Hospice and will be taking over as Fund director from me in January.
Sarah is a fundraising professional and a lovely lady who is very keen to get to know everyone and everything about the Sunshine Fund and I know she is going to do a tremendous job. I wish her all the very best.
