29 Sep Caroll’s Column Friday 29th September 2017
Hi, I hope you’ve had a lovely week and are making the most of the little bits of warm weather we are having. The last flush of summer!
I have had an amazing week, the Sunflower Ball last Friday was fabulous. Not only did everyone have a brilliant night, we raised a staggering £35,000 to buy lots of specialist equipment for the kids including 34 iPads. A huge thank-you to everyone in the room for being so generous, they were rewarded with some amazing prizes.
One lovely lady won two return flights from Newcastle to Dubai courtesy of Emirates so a huge thank-you to them and to everyone who kindly donated prizes. Accenture deserve a huge thank-you for sponsoring the whole evening, they were on the next table to me and they really entered into the spirit and enjoyed themselves. Nice one ladies.
The room looked amazing so thank you to Dandy events and Big Purple. I saw all the work that went into it, it’s brilliant how it all comes together. Thanks to Katherine’s Florist for the beautiful roses, they were stunning.
Also thanks to the Marriott for all their hard work, support and for sponsoring the drinks reception. The food was spectacular.
But the biggest thanks go to a very special little boy, William, who stole the night when he arrived on the dance floor riding the trike we bought him earlier this year.
He is such a special little boy and won everyone’s hearts and really made them give generously to help other kids like himself, and he danced the night away on the dance floor with lots of guests. What a superstar, thank you William and family, you are amazing people.
Thank you to Traveleyes this week for joining us for an information evening at Revolution for our Kerala trek next year.
Guests were shown the beautiful scenery they will be seeing, shown techniques on how to guide a blind person on the trip and questions were answered.
We have 12 people signed up with only eight spaces left so if you would like more details please get in touch with Lauren on 0191 2016289 soon, before its full. I can’t wait as I haven’t been to India before and am told the south is beautiful. We will spend time on a houseboat plus we get to meet elephants – bring it on. I am determined to be fit for this trip so I’m going to keep up my walking throughout the winter.
With only 13 weeks to go to Christmas we are working on our Christmas appeal, when we will be raising money for Hadrian Special School which is based in the West End of Newcastle.
There will be pieces in the paper over the coming weeks with lots of opportunities for you to get involved so watch this space.
I am personally working on an interesting event to support the appeal. The amazing Hilton Newcastle/Gateshead is sponsoring an afternoon tea event at the gorgeous hotel when I am hoping to raise £10,000. It is very ambitious but it will be my last event before I leave the Sunshine Fund at Christmas so I will be doing everything I can to make it happen.
I would like to say a huge thank-you to the Hilton and in particular Lynn Waterman for this brilliant opportunity and to the committee who are getting together tomorrow to help me plan the event.
If you like afternoon tea, would like to support local disabled children whilst being entertained by some celebrity guests, keep Thursday 2nd November free. It’s going to be a super afternoon. More details to follow next week.
I can’t sign off this week without giving a special mention to Bex from Beaconhouse Events and Rebecca from the Sunshine Fund for all their hard work over the last few months on making the ball happen.
They work so well together and just get on with it. I am so pleased it all came together and was a huge success. Now they are off again organising our Celebrity Question of Sport event in November when we will be putting on a fabulous event for the 300 guests and aiming to raise another £25,000. What a team.
