17 May Caroll’s Column – Friday 12th May
I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather. It’s lovely to have a taste of the summer, long may it continue.
I want to wish a very warm welcome to Lauren Thompson who has joined the team this week as our community fundraiser. She is currently getting to know all about the charity especially our Go Bananas appeal.
She will be looking for people to do wild and wacky things as well as the usual fundraising to raise money for 10 local children in June.
She is also working closely with Rebecca on our Sunshine Run which is on Wednesday, June 21 at 7pm on the Quayside.
We hope to have over 300 runners all in our yellow vest running or jogging and having fun.
If you would like to get involved please call us on 0191 2016289. I haven’t shown Lauren the banana and monkey costumes yet but I’m sure she will be wearing them soon, it’s all a bit of fun for the kids!
We had a really good meeting with intu Eldon Square and Metrocentre this week to discuss their Go Bananas plans. They will again be entering a large team for the Sunshine Run plus they also have volunteers helping on the night.
We will be holding our Go Bananas launch party for the families on Saturday at intu Eldon Square when their staff will get to meet the children and their families who are hoping to get their specialist equipment during June.
Thank you to intu for all the support, enabling us to not just raise awareness of the work we do, but also helping us raise the much-needed money for the kids.
It’s not long to the Miss Newcastle competition which we will benefit from this year. Thank you to all the lovely contestants who are fundraising for the charity. Good luck ladies.
The money we raise from events like Miss Newcastle goes to help children like Max who appears on our website and I showed this to a lovely group or people I spoke to at North East Special Needs Network last Thursday.
I told them how against all the odds Max, who his parents were told would not survive, is now nearly five years old and is a very happy child.
He still has lots of health and physical challenges which his parents have to manage, but the bed we bought him has been an amazing help to him and his family allowing them to leave him at night knowing he isn’t going to hurt himself.
Lauren and I are attending Gateshead College this Thursday to continue spreading the word. If you know anyone who has a child with disabilities or a life-limiting illness who needs specialist equipment such as a walker, trike, iPad, something to make their lives better and easier and they live in the North East.
Please check out the Sunshine Fund website or get in touch. We would love to help. Also we need to raise the money to buy this equipment so if you can help us fundraise please speak to us too.
It’s always amazing when we receive donations in the office, we get so excited knowing what we can spend the money on but we also love it when people want to help by giving their time. So if you have some time to spare get in touch so we can discuss how you can help.
If you would like to support us please contact me on 0191 2016289 or at email@example.com
