Caroll’s Column Friday 11th November

11 Nov Caroll’s Column Friday 11th November

Hello,

So the winter weather has arrived as has talk of Christmas.

With just six weeks to go, I hope you are getting in the festive spirit.

I went to the opening of Fenwick’s Christmas window last Friday and found it so exciting with Northumberland Street buzzing; music playing and ‘snow’ falling.

It’s such a lovely North East tradition – bring on the celebrations!

Thank you to everyone who has nominated ladies for one of our Glass Slipper awards.

We have received some fabulous applicants but you still have time to enter – just – as the closing date is today.

So, if you know a lady who deserves a special award then visit our website www.sunshine-fund.org or call the office for a nomination form.

I had a super morning last Friday with a lovely little boy called Matthew who has autism.

We visited Freudenberg in North Shields which had organised a sponsored cycle in the summer and raised money to buy Matthew a specialist bath.

The company also bought him a present on the day – a specialist toy for children with autism and he loved it. It kept him interested for ages.

Matthew’s mother told us about all the daily challenges she faces and how the bath has made her life easier as Matthew loves getting into it. It also helps calm him.

Thank you to all the staff at Freudenberg for cycling, raising money for the charity and especially for being so welcoming.

It’s lovely when our fundraisers can meet the children who have benefited from their efforts and the family have the opportunity to thank them.

As I mentioned last week, we also need to raise £30,000 to buy a much-needed minibus for the local Signed Singers choir so please have a think of how you can support the youngsters.

How about a mince pie sale at work or school, carol-singing or taking part in our Christmas jumper day on Friday, December 9?

Christmas jumpers are in the shops now.

There are lots of different designs and some even have lights.

Or you could decorate your own with tinsel and baubles – I feel a competition coming on!

A thank you goes this week to Allay Claims Ltd, of Newcastle, which presented a £2,000 cheque to us last week at our Sunshine Ladies networking group.

The company supports a different charity each month and this time the Sunshine Fund was chosen by its employee of the month.

The money it donated is much appreciated by us and will be especially by the family set to benefit from such kindness.

I can’t wait for the start of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here this weekend.

Good luck to our charity patrons Ant and Dec and Vicky Pattison who will be presenting the shows for the next three weeks.

Have a lovely week,

Caroll
