04 Feb Caroll’s Blog Thursday 4th February 2016
HELLO February – where did January go? I love this little month with Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, Shrove Tuesday and our Glass Slipper Awards to look forward to. It should be a fun one.
Julieanne from the Sunshine Fund visited Hadrian School in Newcastle this week which is always an uplifting experience as the children and staff are so happy and positive despite having very challenging lives.
The special school is in desperate need of new outdoor play equipment for the children who can’t use ordinary swings and climbing frames.
So when current work on the garden area is complete, we are hoping to buy lots of equipment to allow all the children to play outside together.
Roll on the spring when hopefully we will be going back to the school to watch the children trying out the new play equipment.
On Monday the Great North Run ballot places are out so if you aren’t lucky enough to get a place, then contact Rebecca on 0191 201 6066 or firstname.lastname@example.org as we still have some guaranteed places left.
Our thanks this week goes to Katherine’s Florists Ltd in Newcastle which continues to support us and is currently working on a design for the table centrepieces and bouquets for our Glass Slipper Awards.
I always love seeing an events room when the flowers are in as they make such a difference and create such a lovely atmosphere. We are delighted to have sold 35 tables this year so thank you so much to everyone who will be joining us at next Friday’s awards.
The event has grown every year and Katherine’s support has grown too.
The company is so professional and a pleasure to work with. So a huge thank-you again to the fabulous Helen Nikzard and her team.
I’m going to buy my new outfit at the weekend: it’s a lovely excuse to treat myself to a new frock – as if I need an excuse!
Some of the money raised from the raffle at the event will be helping a seven-year-old boy who is quadriplegic and has very limited movement.
His mam has asked us for a specialist garden swing as the family struggle to take him to the park due to his condition.
He currently has access to a similar swing at school which he finds relaxing and the £300 equipment will enable him join in more activities outdoors with his younger sister.
Congratulations to our Rebecca who passed her Sage Accounts exam this week with flying colours: well done, you so deserve it as you work so hard and have a couple of great mentors in Julieanne and Clare.
I am so proud of the team, they are always looking for new ways to fundraise and help the children we support.
It’s such a pleasure to work with such enthusiastic caring people and we have such a laugh at times.
We are off to our Sunshine Ladies’ networking group at the Hilton today to share our fundraising plans and hear ladies from Sparkle talk about making the most of social media. With nearly 30 ladies in the room there is bound to be lots of chat. Here’s to an amazing February,
