16 Jul Caroll’s Blog Thurs 16th June 2015
Hello, Julieanne here this week.
I just wanted to say hi and tell you a little bit about what is going on here at the Sunshine Fund office.
After a month of raising money with our Go Bananas appeal, we have been very busy with all the thank yous.
We have had families supporting the appeal, local businesses and schools, so we would like to say a huge big thank you once again to everyone who played a part in raising money.
I was dressed as a banana most of the month, which was lots of fun – all for a good cause! So if you saw me out and about in Newcastle I hope I made you smile.
In the last week I have been busy working with the families to get their equipment. We have supported families with powered wheelchairs, iPads and sensory equipment,
This is the best part of my job, seeing the smiles on the children’s faces. But we couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you.
There are so many children in the area that struggle on a daily basis, and this is why our work is so important.
This week I got a phone call to see if we could help a boy from Whitley Bay with a walker. He has cerebral palsy and is really finding it difficult to walk and get around. He is off to big school in September and his mam is desperate to get him the equipment before then.
Items like this cost around £1,200 – a lot of money, so we hope to be able to help him and we will keep you informed!
Last week I attended Cedars Academy school in Gateshead for its summer fair. It was lovely to talk to so many families and children who could benefit from our work, so we still have plenty of fundraising to do to help more children later in the year.
So, what’s happening now?
We are planning our ball and Celebrity Question of Sport, and of course we have the Great North Run coming up in September too, so it is still a busy time!
If you would like to do some fundraising for us, please do get in touch. Maybe you could do the Coast 2 Coast or organise a bake sale at work; every little helps, as they say.
