21 Nov Carolll’s Column Friday 17th November
Hi there, I hope you enjoyed all the firework displays at the weekend and are loving the run-up to Christmas.
I watched the opening of Fenwick’s Christmas window with my lovely daughter Laura.
With the fake snow coming down, the children and some bigger children were very excited to see the Paddington story unveiled.
It is s such a magical experience, thank you Fenwick’s for keeping the tradition alive.
Talking of Christmas, with just over six weeks to go we are desperately fundraising as we not only need to raise the £30,000 needed to buy a hoist and play equipment for Hadrian school but we have also received more than 30 applications for further equipment for local disabled children who need our help.
The team are working flat out to make sure we can buy it all before Christmas – but it is not going to be easy.
If you can help in any way it will be appreciated, not just by the charity but especially the children and families who desperately need items like buggy covers so they can take their children out in the bad weather, ipads to allow the children to communicate between school and home and comfortable chairs so the kids can relax their bodies at home and don’t have to sit in their wheelchairs all day and all night.
We are having our Christmas jumper day on Friday December 15 when we hope everyone in the North East will wear their best seasonal wear and donate to the appeal.
We have people organising Christmas parties, mince pie competitions and bake sales and we want to see your pics in the paper.
So get together with your friends and colleagues and see if you can join in the fun and help us raise the money to give all of our children who live with challenges every day the best Christmas.
We are also organising a raffle this year with fab prizes, from iPads, TV’s, to vouchers and afternoon teas, all prizes have been kindly donated.
If you can either buy or sell some tickets for us among your family, friends or work colleagues call us on 0191 2016289 and we will get the tickets to you.
If you would like to help by organising a fundraising event, volunteering in the office, or donating please get in touch we would love to hear your plans.
A huge thankyou goes to the Hilton Gateshead/Newcastle this week for donating all the sparkling afternoon teas for what was an amazing event last Thursday. We not only had a fab day but through the generosity of everyone involved we raised an incredible £6,000 – which is enough to buy a couple of playground pieces for the children of Hadrian School to enjoy.
The children sang for us at the event and they were incredible and although they always make me smile it was a very emotional day for me as it was my last event at the charity as I will be retiring at Christmas.
Thank you to our fab patron and my gorgeous, witty daughter Vicky who entertained everyone by answering their questions in her own honest and witty style.
Also, I would like to thank the committee for helping me organise this at short notice, to Katherines Florist, Dandy Events, Barclays and Accenture for donating a picture which went to Hadrian School.
Thank you to North Group, our Glass Slipper Award sponsors this year who hosted lunch for the committee on Monday who had the really hard job of shortlisting for February’s event.
We were inundated with amazing entries this year so well done to everyone who has been shortlisted as it was not an easy decision for the judges.
All shortlisted ladies will be invited to attend on Friday, February 23 as our guest – if you would like to attend please let us know, it is a lovely lunchtime celebration at the Hilton Newcastle/Gateshead.
Have a fab week,
