19 Mar Appeal for toy library donations
A LEARNING Library which loans out specialist toys and equipment to North East children is appealing to fundraisers for more support.
The centre in North Street, Spennymoor, caters for 750 members who have a mixture of learning difficulties and physical disabilities – 500 of them children – by lending them items to bolster their confidence, self-esteem, emotional and physical wellbeing, as well as help them learn new skills.
Bosses have applied to The Chronicle Sunshine Fund for £5,000 worth of sensory equipment to help youngsters with their development, including bubble tubes and light machines, and the charity is now inviting its supporters to back the cause.
Caroll Pattison, Sunshine Fund director, visited The Learning Library earlier this month. She said: “It was lovely to meet the staff at The Learning Library, who told me of the amazing work they are doing with local children and schools. They have some super pieces but desperately need more sensory equipment to lend out as the word gets out about what they do.
“The equipment library is such a good idea, as people can try the equipment before they buy to make sure it benefits their child. We would be very grateful if anyone can donate.”
