Newcastle East Masonic Centre’s 2 chosen Charities 2013

Press Release 29th January 2013

A visit to the Northumberland Freemasons website www.northumberlandmasons.org gives an insight into the way we the Freemasons of Northumberland organize our internal activities through our Lodge system and the many and varied ways in which we play a role within our local communities.

It challenges popular misconceptions of the organization and provides information about our work in the community and the support given to charities both locally and nationally.

There are a number of Masonic Centres throughout Northumberland where individual Lodges meet. In Newcastle there are three Centres: The Masonic Hall at Fern Avenue in Jesmond, the Masonic Hall at Maple Terrace in Rye Hill and the Newcastle East Masonic Centre at Corbridge Road in Byker.

Following on from the successes in 2011 when they raised a total of £4,111.70 (£2,422.50 for the Bubble Foundation based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and £1,689.20 for the Help for Heroes) and 2012 when they raised a total of £10,478.10 (£3,849.05 for the Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund and £6,629.05 for the Teenage Cancer Trust) the Freemasons of Byker wish to announce that their two chosen Charities for 2013 are ‘DEBRA’( the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) - a painful genetic condition which causes the skin to blister and shear at the slightest friction, or even spontaneously.) and Metro Radio’s ‘Cash for Kids’.

As with previous years a number of charity events are being organized to support the fund raising efforts and will hopefully include a return Rugby Match with our Freemason neighbours in Durham, a football match, and Great North Run entrants all culminating in a Charity Christmas Ball.

Further announcements regarding all these events and others will be made in due course both in the local press and on the Northumberland Freemasons website.
