Finalists Selected For Glass Slipper Awards

Finalists Selected For Glass Slipper Awards

The search for Tyneside's most inspirational women has moved a step forward. The Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund launched its first ever Glass Slipper Awards last year and called on folk to nominate worthy ladies who deserve recognition.

They were looking not just for women who impress in the boardroom, but in all aspects of life. Now, after a gruelling selection process, the finalists for the six categories have been chosen.

Caroll Pattison, director of the Sunshine Fund, said: "The standard of the nominations has been outstanding. They have given the judging panel a difficult task to pick the winner of each award.

"Everyone nominated is a deserving winner. They are all inspirational ladies of the North East, who all have achieved much, be that in their work life or home life.

"We would also like to say a big thank you to Tait Walker, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, and Eldon Square for all their support for the Glass Slipper Awards."

Nominee in the Lifetime Achievement Helen McArdle, who runs Helen McArdle Care, says she's honoured to even be considered for the award.

She said: "I have been in business now for more than 25 years and I love what I do.

"I am proud of what I do and I believe that I make a difference, so to be recognised with this nomination is fantastic.

"It would be a great testament to my family and staff if I won this award as everything I do is for them and they inspire me to succeed."

The winners will be decided by a panel of esteemed judges, which will include the Fund's Caroll Pattison, Sandra Jobling, who set up Coastal Productions, Angela Upex, head of features at ncjMedia, Karen Carr, marketing manager at Metrocentre, and Lynn Waterman, director of sales at the Hilton.

Ms Waterman added: "I am honoured to be on the judging panel and I'm looking forward to reading through the nominations and see the talented ladies that we have here in the region."

The Glass Slipper Awards, which are sponsored by Tait Walker and supported by Hilton Newcastle, will take place on Thursday, February 28, at the Hilton between noon and 3pm.

Tables of 10 can be bought for £500 or £50 per person and all money raised will go towards the Sunshine Fund.
