A CHRISTMAS Jumper Day in aid of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund raised £1,000 thanks to 30 North East companies taking part.

Employees each paid £2 to wear festive knitwear to work on Friday, and in doing so supported the charity’s aim of raising £40,000 in December to help disabled youngsters living in the region.


Organisations taking part included Deloitte, Newcastle College, Winn Solicitors, Keith Pattinson estate agents and Ward Hadaway law firm.

Paul Feechan, office senior partner at Deloitte in Newcastle, said: “The Sunshine Fund’s Christmas Jumper Day is one of a number of fundraising activities which our Newcastle office has been delighted to take part in, with The Sunshine Fund being our local office charity for the year.

“It is great that all money being raised from the day will go towards supporting children with disabilities within our region.

“We have more than 200 people within our Newcastle office and everyone got into the festive spirit last Friday and wore their Christmas jumpers – some a little more ‘decorative’ than others!”


Victoria McBride, of Winn Solicitors, added: “Our staff loved taking part in Christmas Jumper Day and getting in the Christmas spirit. They raised £226 for this fantastic charity.”

The Fund, which is granting wishes for children with disabilities throughout December, uses the cash to buy youngsters and their families much-needed specialist equipment.

Jamie Martin, managing partner at Ward Hadaway, said: “As a firm, we always look to support the local community wherever we can and this was a fun way to raise money for a terrific cause.

“There were some splendid jumpers on show during the day, from red-nosed reindeers to a musical one, as everyone really got into the spirit of the event.”

And Susan Moore, finance director at Keith Pattinson added: “This year we wanted to support local charities and chose the Sunshine Fund as one of our designated charities. We have taken part in several events throughout the year to raise much- needed funds to help the children of the North East.” Clare Savory is events manager at the Fund.

She said: “It was fantastic to see so many companies wearing their Christmas jumpers in aid of the Sunshine Fund.

“We received so many great pictures – everyone really got into the spirit of Christmas. A huge thank you to all the companies that took part.”
